Details of experience:
Sharon was admitted to the community on December 26, 2024, after a fall that resulted in a right femur fracture. A right femur fracture is a break in the bone of the upper right thigh. She arrived from Vanderbilt County Hospital, not remembering much and was unsure of what her recovery would entail. However, from the beginning of her journey, she has kept her sense of humor which remained a strength throughout her stay.
Upon arrival, she was greeted by the dedicated rehabilitation team, nursing department, concierge, social services, along with the rest of the community’s interdisciplinary team, ready to support her on her journey. Although she was unsure of what to expect, her goal was set from the start – to walk again. At the start of her stay, Sharon required maximum assistance for transfers, making her movements a challenge. However, with her perseverance and the guidance of the therapy team, she made remarkable progress. She shared the greatest joy of her stay was, of course, her visits from the therapy dog, but especially the bonds that she formed with Erin (OT), Steve (PTA), and Chelsea (COTA) or as she refers to them, the “dream team.” She shared her gratitude for their support in her recovery and regaining her confidence by saying, “Whether it is a good or bad day for me, everyone is always here to help me, but those three are my angels.”
Throughout her rehabilitation, Sharon not only met her goals but exceeded them. She progressed from needing maximum assistance to walking with supervision, which is a testament to her determination and resilience. She was so excited to take a more active role in her recovery, having the opportunity to set her own goals for herself in her sessions as she grew stronger! What started as a difficult and uncertain journey became an empowering experience, as she regained her independence with the support of her care team, turning recovery into a journey of personal strength and growth.
As she prepares for discharge, Sharon is eager to return home and begin an exciting new chapter of becoming a great grandmother! She shared that this milestone has been an amazing motivator throughout her recovery, inspiring her to push forward. While she has enjoyed her time in the community, she is ready to embrace life beyond our doors, knowing that she has achieved what is not always an easy feat. Sharon has been an inspiration to everyone in the community who has had the privilege of working with her, and the team is honored to have played a role in her success. The community wishes Sharon all the best as she continues to thrive and enjoy the next chapter of her life.
